ISLAMABAD: A delegation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) led by deputy convener of the party’s Rabita Committee Dr Farooq Sattar reached the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday to attend the hearing over the contempt of court notice issued to party chief Altaf Hussain, DawnNews reported.

While talking to mediapersons before the hearing Sattar said that the delegation had appeared to represent party chief Altaf Hussain in his contempt of court case and that it was not possible for Altaf Hussain to appear in Supreme Court for the hearing. He added that a petition requesting exemption of his personal appearance in court had been filed.

The National Assembly member further said that the MQM had always held the court as supreme and that he hoped the issue would be amicably resolved.

The apex court had issued a contempt of court notice, during the hearing of a case over Karachi’s Law and order situation on Dec 14, to Hussain and his party’s deputy convener Dr Farooq Sattar over the former’s derogatory remarks towards the Supreme Court judges.

The MQM had filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Jan 4, to request exemption for party chief Altaf Hussain from appearing in the apex court.
